The Christmas angels

Welcome warmly!

I think already of Christmas time. Although it is only the beginning of autumn, from three weeks I paint the angels and nativity sets. The nativity sets I will show you other time. Today I'm starting with the angels. These wooden figurines are painted with the acrylic paints and varnished.

I hope you will like them.

The merry little angels

Welcome warmly!

This time I would like to show you the cheerful angels painted on cut wooden elements for a change. Certainly they could be a nice feature in a nursery.

The angel on the first photo in the hunter dress was made to order, and already belongs to the little Timmy.

DIY Tutorial - how to make the painted Christmas angel

Although to Christmas still left a lot of time, I thought that now I will present you, how to make step by step this decorative, painted wooden angel with parts of polymer clay.

The angel might be also the perfect gift for other different occasions.

You will need:

  - The wooden peg doll 3,5" tall (8,9 cm) and 1,5" wide (3,8 cm).
  - A white primer (gesso).
  - A pencil.
  - The acrylic paints (white, black, flesh color, blue, pink, brown).
  - The thin round brush (for example, the size 1 or 2).
  - The l
arger flat brush (for example, the size 10) for priming and painting the large surfaces.
  - The permanent (waterproof), thin black
pen.
  - The polymer clay.
  - A roller.
  - The modelling spatula or toothpick.

  - A knife.
  - The heart-shaped cookie cutter.
  - The glue gun or wood glue.
  - Optionally a varnish or water-based lacquer.
  - The
heart-shaped wooden stand.
  - The
gold oil pen or gold acrylic paint.

1. Priming.

Paint the figurine with the white primer (gesso). This is not necessary, but using the primer makes the paint adhere better, and also the colors are more vivid.

2. Painting the face complexion.

Paint the face complexion using the flesh color.

3. Sketching the face.

Using
the pencil,
sketch the general outline of the face and hair.

4. Painting the face: hair, eyes and nose.

Paint the face features with the thin, round brush (for example, the size 1 or 2). First fill the eyes with white paint, then paint the blue (or using other color) irises, black pupils and white reflections on the them.

Paint cheeks, lips and nose with the pink paint.

5. Finishing the face details.

Using the permanent (waterproof) thin black pen, paint the eyelashes, and mark the contours of the eyes.  Instead of the pen can also be used a thin brush and black paint, but using the pen is more simple to apply.

Note: It is important the pen to be waterproof, because this way one can avoid to smudge during the varnishing.

6. Painting the angel dress.

Paint the dress using one color, and then sketch dress sleeves and hands with the pencil. Outline the sketch with the paint in a lighter shade.

7. Painting the details of dress.

Using the thin round brush (for example, the size 1 or 2), paint the details of the dress (in this case the little flowers).

8. Making the aureole and wings of polymer clay.

Make the aureole of polymer clay. For this purpose, roll up the clay, and then cut the circle with the screw top. Fit the clay shape to the back of the angel head. Leave the aureole to dry for a few hours.

Using the small heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut the wings of rolled up clay. Cut the resulting heart in half with a knife, and on the outer sides of wings make the cuts with a modelling spatula or toothpick.

Adjust the wings to the shape of the angel back, so that later you can glue them better. Leave the wings to dry for a few hours. Paint the dry aureole and wings, for example, in white color. On the aureole surface paint the blue stripe. Attach the both parts to the body of angel with the glue gun or wood glue.

Finally you can varnish the figurine (or to lacquer) to protect it from moisture and dust, and also to saturate the colors.

9. Painting the wooden heart.

The angel figurine can be put on the stand. I have used the
heart-shaped wooden stand, that I have painted white and embellished with gold oil pen.

The autumn - my favorite season

Although to the beginning of autumn by the calendar still left some days, I already go beyond my thoughts to my favorite season.

I love the colors and scents of autumn. For me they are an inexhaustible source of inspiration. There are not many things as beautiful as the nature bathed in autumn color palette.

I hope this year the autumn will be accompanied by as many as possible sunny days to allow for walks in the meadows and woods, searching the inspiring colors and shapes.

In my current collection of glass paintings you will find some works inspired by the beauty of the autumn colors.

I invite you to have a look at three of my autumn paintings.

The first painting is entitled "The angel with the apples".

The next one is entitled "The autumn angel".

The summer memories - part one

Although the weather does spoil us recently (at least here in Poland), in the air one inevitably can feel the smell of autumn, my favorite season.

I love the colors and scents of autumn. I am inspired by them to be more creative.

Since I moved to the countryside, I found my another passion, which is the creating of garden, where I could relax and find new inspirations. Because I really love the flowers in my garden there are quite a few of them.

Probably some of you regret the vanishing summer, so I present the summer snapshots from my garden on camera of my friend who on some hot July day has visited me. She was so involved with taking photos that the resulting number of pictures does require to divide the presentation into at least two posts. And surely there will be more of them.

I invite you to watch them.

At the beginning, the clematis in all its glory...

Saint Rita of Cascia figurine

Today I present another figure from the collection of saints. This time it's Saint Rita of Cascia.

The Saint Rita feast day is celebrated every May 22. On this day one bring roses to the church that are dedicated to her. Saint Rita is known to be a patroness for abused wives and mourning women. She has acquired the reputation as a saint of impossible cases.

I have recently watched a movie about the life of this saint, entitled "Rita da Cascia". Very touching movie. I highly recommend it.

Here are some pictures:

My new passion - the saint figurines

My first posts were related to older works from over the year.

It's time to show off what does fascinate me now. And these are the wooden figurines, featuring the painted representations of Christian saints.

On the tab, titled Saint Figurines, you can admire the whole, not very impressive collection of saint figurines. However, in this post I will present the figurine that started the whole collection. It is the Immaculate Heart of Virgin Mary.

Here is only one image provided. The other photos of this figurine with the full description you can find in my Etsy shop at: http://www.etsy.com/listing/157867686/immaculate-sacred-heart-of-virgin-mary
